Heavy metals can be introduced into soils and aqueous environment by natural processes or anthropogenic activities. They are non-degradable in nature and highly toxic to plants, animals and human beings. Various methods exist for the removal of heavy metal ions from solution, such as filtration, chemical precipitation, ion exchange and sorption by activated carbon and others. Discarded tires are an interesting and inexpensive medium for the sorption of heavy metals. There has been little research on heavy metal sorption into tire rubber in competitive systems. Therefore the present study was conducted to assess the sorption behavior of Cu and Mn on different size of tire rubber in a competitive system. Materials and methods:The finely ground discarded tire rubber with three sizes including 0.088-0.125, 0.177-0.250 and 0.353-0.500 mm were prepared from Yazd Tire Company in Iran. A batch experiment was conducted by adding of 200 mg of ground tire to 10 ml of Cu+Mn aqueous solution of the desired concentration (10 to 50 mg L-1). After 24h, supernatant was separated by filtration and analyzed for remaining Cu and Mn by atomic absorption spectroscopy technique.Results: Sorption of Cu and Mn on tire rubber increased with increasing of metal concentration from 0 to 50 mg L-1. The greatest sorption of Cu (1088.9 mg Kg-1) was found at the smallest tire rubber size (0.088-0.125 mm) and decreased by 35% when the largest size (0.353-0.500 mm) was used. At the highest concentration, sorption of Cu was restricted by Mn competition. In the whole range of studied metal concentrations, Mn occupied the least sorption sites of tire rubber. The sorption of Mn was not affected by tire rubber size and was restricted by Cu competition. Based on average, the experimental data were fitted in Langmuire (R2=0.94) better than Freundlich one (R2=0.87), showing monolayer sorption of Cu and Mn on discarded tire rubber. The values of maximum sorption capacities calculated from the fitted Langmuir equation showed that Cu sorption was higher than Mn. There was an increase in the qm values of Mn when the tire rubber diameter decreased. In this study, separation factor (RL) was used to predict if an adsorption system is favorable or unfavorable. In all cases, the values of RL were between 0 and 1, pointing to the favorable sorption of Cu and Mn on three size of rubber. Conclusion: Results clearly showed that ground discarded tire rubber (especially, the smallest size) are an effective adsorbent for the removal of Cu and Mn in competitive system. The equilibrium sorption isotherm of Cu and Mn onto discarded tire rubber is well described by the Langmuir and Freundlich models, but the Langmuir model fits the experimental data better than the Freundlich model.}, keywords = {Environment,Heavy metals,Pollution,sorption Isotherms}, title_fa = {جذب رقابتی مس و منگنز از محلول‌های آبی توسط خرده لاستیک فرسوده}, abstract_fa = {سابقه و هدف: برخی از فلزات سنگین نظیر مس و منگنز سمی بوده و به دلیل پایداری زیاد در محیط، جزو آلاینده‌های خطرناک محسوب می‌شوند. فلزات سنگین از طریق فعالیت‌های طبیعی و انسانی به خاک و محیط زیست افزوده می‌شوند. فلزات سنگین در طبیعت غیر‌قابل‌تجزیه بوده و سمیت زیادی برای گیاهان، حیوانات و انسان ایجاد می‌کنند. روش‌های مختلفی نظیر فیلتراسیون، رسوب شیمیایی، تبادل یونی و جذب سطحی توسط کربن فعال و جاذب‌های ارزان‌قیمت برای حذف فلزات سنگین از محلول‌های آبی وجود دارد. خرده‌های لاستیک به عنوان یک جاذب ارزان قیمت در حذف فلزات سنگین مورد توجه قرار‌ گرفته‌است. اطلاعات چندانی در ارتباط با جذب رقابتی فلزات سنگین توسط خرده‌های لاستیک در سیستم‌های حاوی چند فلز وجود ندارد. بنابراین پژوهش حاضر با هدف ارزیابی رفتار جذبی مس و منگنز روی اندازه‌های مختلف خرده لاستیک در یک سیستم رقابتی انجام شد.مواد و روش‌ها: خرده‌های لاستیک با سه اندازه 125/0-088/0، 250/0-177/0 و 500/0-353/0 میلی‌متر از کارخانه لاستیک یزد‌ تایر تهیه شد. یک آزمایش پیمانه‌ای با اضافه کردن 200 میلی‌گرم از هر سه اندازه خرده لاستیک به 10 میلی‌لیتر محلول حاوی مس+ منگنز در غلظت‌های 10 تا 50 میلی‌گرم‌بر‌لیتر انجام شد. بعد از 24 ساعت، سوسپانسیون از کاغذ صافی عبور داده شد و غلظت باقی‌مانده مس و منگنز در عصاره به کمک روش جذب اتمی اندازه‌گیری شد. یافته‌ها: با افزایش غلظت مس و منگنز، میزان جذب این فلزات توسط خرده‌های لاستیک افزایش یافت. بیشترین میزان جذب مس (9/1088 میلی‌گرم بر کیلوگرم) توسط خرده لاستیک با اندازه 125/0-088/0 صورت گرفت و با افزایش اندازه خرده لاستیک به 500/0-353/0 میلی‌متر مقدار جذب آن در حدود 35 درصد کاهش یافت. در بالاترین غلظت، جذب مس توسط خرده‌های لاستیک از طریق رقابت با منگنز کاهش یافت. در تمامی غلظت‌های به کار‌رفته، منگنز کمترین سایت‌های جذب را اشغال کرد. اگرچه جذب منگنز تحت تأثیر اندازه خرده‌‌لاستیک قرار نگرفت، ولی جذب آن توسط خرده‌لاستیک از طریق رقابت با مس محدود شد. داده‌های جذب برازش بهتری را در معادله لانگمویر (94/0R2=) در مقایسه با فروندلیچ (87/0R2=) نشان دادند که نشان از جذب تک‌لایه‌ای مس و منگنز توسط خرده لاستیک دارد. مقادیر حداکثر ظرفیت جذب محاسبه شده از معادله لانگمویر (qm) نشان داد که جذب مس بیشتر از منگنز می-باشد. با کاهش اندازه خرده‌های لاستیک، مقدار qm افزایش یافت. در این مطالعه عامل جدایش (RL) برای پیش‌بینی مطلوبیت جذب در سیستم جذب محاسبه گردید. در تمامی شرایط مقدار RL بین صفر تا یک متغیر بود که نشان از جذب مطلوب مس و منگنز توسط سه اندازه خرده لاستیک داردنتیجه‌گیری: نتایج این مطالعه نشان داد که خرده‌های لاستیک (به ویژه در کوچکترین اندازه) توانایی مناسبی جهت جذب مس و منگنز در یک سیستم رقابتی را دارا می‌باشند. اگرچه داده‌های جذب سطحی مس و منگنز توسط خرده‌های لاستیک به خوبی توسط دو معادله لانگمویر و فروندلیچ توصیف شدند، اما معادله لانگمویر برازش بهتری را در مقایسه با معادله فروندلیچ نشان داد.}, keywords_fa = {آلودگی,عناصر سنگین,محیط زیست,همدماهای جذب}, url = {https://jwsc.gau.ac.ir/article_3031.html}, eprint = {https://jwsc.gau.ac.ir/article_3031_fcb70f03fc8d1f8378f7005b92264507.pdf} }
